This very old, superb garden variety has huge, white and red-flamed colored flowers that are very showy with feathered, curled, twisted or waved petals. These tulips were created from a science experiment in which Single Late Tulips were x-rayed resulting in feather like petals on bluish-green foliage. Plant tulips in well-drained soil to ensure proper root formation. Exposure to full sun will bring out the rich colors that tulips offer, but some shade will enable a longer blooming period and still offer a colorful addition to your yard or garden. When to plant your tulip bulbs for a colorful garden next spring: Plant bulbs from October to December; Tulip bulbs can actually be planted up until Christmas and still flower perfectly well in the following spring because they only need a short season of growth.
