From summer through fall, Buddleia produces large cone-shaped clusters of flowers in shades of purple, pink, white, blue, and lavender, creating a vibrant display when many other plants begin to fade. Its graceful arching branches and silvery-green foliage add texture and movement to the landscape. 2. Prepare the Soil

    • Loosen soil 8–10 inches deep.
    • Incorporate compost if needed to improve drainage and fertility.
    • Buddleia performs best in well-drained soil.

    3. Dig the Hole

    • Dig a hole twice as wide as the 3.5" pot and equal depth.

    4. Remove from Pot

    • Carefully remove the plant and gently loosen any circling roots.

    • Place the root ball level with the surrounding soil surface.
    • Backfill with soil and firm gently around the roots.

    6. Water Thoroughly

    • Water deeply after planting.
    • Keep soil moderately moist during establishment.

    7. Mulch

    • Apply 2–3 inches of mulch around the base to conserve moisture and suppress weeds.

    8. Spacing

    • Space plants 4–8 feet apart depending on the mature size of the variety.

    Seasonal Care & Maintenance

    • Deadhead spent flower spikes regularly to encourage continuous blooming.
    • Water during prolonged drought periods, especially during the first growing season.
    • Fertilize lightly in spring if desired.
    • Prune hard in late winter or early spring to encourage vigorous new growth and abundant flowering.

Buddleia is a spectacular flowering shrub that offers months of colorful blooms, delightful fragrance, and unmatched pollinator appeal. Its easy-care nature, drought tolerance, and ability to fill the garden with butterflies make it one of the most popular flowering shrubs for sunny landscapes.
