Planting Instructions (From a 3.5" Pot into the Ground)
1. Choose the Location
- Select a location with at least 6 hours of sunlight daily.
- Provide a sturdy trellis, arbor, fence, or pergola for climbing support.
2. Prepare the Soil
- Loosen soil 10–12 inches deep.
- Add compost or organic matter to improve fertility and drainage.
3. Dig the Hole
- Dig a hole twice as wide as the 3.5" pot and slightly deeper than the root ball.
4. Remove from Pot
- Gently remove the plant and loosen any circling roots.
5. Plant Deeply
- Position the crown about 2–3 inches below soil level to encourage vigorous stems and help prevent clematis wilt.
- Backfill and firm soil gently.
6. Water
- Water thoroughly after planting.
- Keep soil consistently moist during establishment.
7. Mulch the Base
- Apply mulch or use low-growing companion plants to help keep roots cool.
8. Spacing
- Space plants 3–5 feet apart.
