Red Hot Poker (Kniphofia uvaria), also known as Torch Lily or Poker Plant, is a bold perennial grown for its striking, flame-like flower spikes. From early to mid-summer, tall stems rise above clumps of grass-like foliage, carrying dramatic blooms that shift in color from fiery red and orange to glowing yellow as they mature. These vibrant flowers resemble glowing torches and create a dazzling vertical accent in borders or as focal points in sunny landscapes. Hardy and low-maintenance, Red Hot Poker thrives in well-draining soil and is excellent for adding a touch of the exotic to gardens.

Bareroot Planting Instructions (Red Hot Poker):

    1. Timing: Plant in spring after danger of frost has passed.

    2. Location: Select a sunny site with well-drained soil; sandy or loamy soils are ideal.

    3. Preparation: Dig a hole twice as wide and as deep as the root system.

    4. Planting: Place the bareroot with roots spread out and crown positioned about 2 inches below the soil surface.

    5. Backfill: Refill hole with soil, firm gently, and water thoroughly.

    6. Spacing: Space plants 18–24 inches apart for proper air circulation.

    7. Aftercare: Water regularly until established, then reduce watering—plants prefer drier conditions. Apply mulch to conserve moisture, but keep it away from the crown. Remove spent flower spikes to encourage reblooming. Cut back foliage in late fall or early spring.
