Orange Mint is a fragrant, fast-growing herb that combines the refreshing qualities of traditional mint with a subtle citrus twist. Its soft green leaves release a bright, sweet orange-like aroma when brushed or crushed, making it a favorite for herb gardens, teas, and culinary use. In summer, it produces small spikes of pale lavender flowers that attract pollinators. Like other mints, it spreads readily, forming lush patches that are both ornamental and highly productive.

    • Consider planting in a contained area, as mint spreads aggressively.

    2. Prepare the Soil

    • Loosen soil 8–10 inches deep.
    • Add compost—mint prefers rich, moist soil.

    3. Dig the Hole

    • Dig a hole twice as wide as the 3.5" pot and equal depth.

    4. Remove from Pot

    • Gently remove the plant and loosen any bound roots.

    5. Plant

    • Place the plant so the root ball is level with the soil surface.
    • Backfill and firm soil gently.

    6. Water

    • Water thoroughly after planting.
    • Keep soil consistently moist during establishment.

    7. Spacing

    • Space plants 18–24 inches apart
    • Use barriers or containers if you want to control spread

    Overwintering Orange Mint

    In-Ground (Zones 4–9)

    • Very cold hardy perennial
    • Foliage dies back after frost
    • Cut stems down to ground level in late fall or early spring
    • Apply a light mulch layer in colder climates

    Maintenance Tips

    • Divide plants every few years to control spread and maintain vigor
    • Harvest regularly to encourage fresh growth

    Container Plants

    • Move containers to a sheltered area in very cold climates
    • Water occasionally during dormancy to prevent roots from drying out

Orange Mint is a versatile and easy-to-grow herb that brings both fragrance and flavor to the garden. With its refreshing citrus twist and vigorous growth, it’s an excellent choice for culinary use, pollinator support, and lush green coverage.
