Autumn Joy Sedum (Hylotelephium spectabile ‘Autumn Joy’) is one of the most popular and reliable perennials for late-season color. Its succulent, gray-green leaves form upright clumps that are topped in late summer with large, flat clusters of tiny, star-shaped flowers. These blossoms open pale pink, deepen to rosy red, and mature into rich copper tones by fall, providing a long season of interest. Extremely hardy and drought-tolerant, Autumn Joy thrives with minimal care and is a favorite for pollinator gardens, borders, and rock gardens. Its seed heads also add winter texture when left standing.

Planting Instructions (from a 3.5" pot into the ground):

    1. Timing: Plant in spring or early fall when temperatures are mild.

    2. Location: Choose a sunny site with well-draining soil; thrives in sandy or rocky soils.

    3. Preparation: Dig a hole twice as wide as the pot and just as deep.

    4. Planting: Remove the plant from the pot, gently loosen the roots, and place it in the hole with the crown level to the soil surface.

    5. Backfill: Fill with soil, firm gently, and water lightly.

    6. Spacing: Plant 18–24 inches apart to allow mature clump expansion.

    7. Aftercare: Water regularly until established; afterward, water sparingly. Avoid heavy fertilizer as sedums perform best in lean soils. Cut stems back in early spring before new growth emerges.
