Planting Instructions (From a 3.5" Pot into the Ground)
1. Choose the Location
- Select a location with well-drained, organically rich soil.
- Choose partial shade or filtered sunlight, especially in warmer climates.
2. Prepare the Soil
- Loosen soil 8–10 inches deep.
- Incorporate compost or aged organic matter to improve drainage and fertility.
3. Dig the Hole
- Dig a hole twice as wide as the 3.5" pot and equal depth.
4. Remove from Pot
- Carefully remove the plant from its container.
- Gently loosen any circling roots.
5. Plant
- Position the crown slightly above or level with the surrounding soil.
- Backfill gently and firm the soil around the roots without burying the crown.
6. Water Thoroughly
- Water deeply immediately after planting.
- Keep soil evenly moist while the plant establishes.
7. Mulch
- Apply a light 2-inch layer of mulch around the plant, keeping mulch away from the crown to prevent rot.
8. Spacing
- Space plants 18–24 inches apart to allow room for mature growth and good air circulation.
Overwintering Georgia Peach Heuchera
In-Ground Plants
- Fully hardy throughout USDA Zones 4–9.
- Foliage often remains attractive through winter in milder climates.
- Plants may become semi-evergreen or dormant in colder regions.
Winter Care Tips
- Apply a light layer of mulch after the ground freezes to protect roots from repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
- Avoid burying the crown beneath heavy mulch.
- Remove any winter-damaged foliage in late winter or early spring before new growth begins.
- Water occasionally during prolonged winter dry spells if the ground is not frozen.
Container-Grown Plants
- Move containers to a sheltered location during severe winter weather.
- Insulate pots or place them against a protected wall to reduce root freezing.
- Water sparingly during dormancy, ensuring the soil does not completely dry out.
Long-Term Maintenance
- Divide mature clumps every 3–4 years in spring or early fall if the crown becomes woody or plants begin to decline.
- Refresh mulch annually to help conserve moisture and regulate soil temperature.
