Planting Instructions from a 3.5" Pot
- Site Selection: Choose a location with partial shade to full shade. Southern Comfort Heuchera can tolerate morning sun but needs protection from the hot afternoon sun in warmer climates.
- Soil Preparation: Ensure the soil is well-draining. Amend heavy clay soils with compost or other organic matter to improve drainage.
- Planting:
- Dig a hole slightly larger than the root ball of the plant.
- Remove the plant from its pot, gently loosening the roots if they are tightly bound.
- Place the plant in the hole so that the top of the root ball is level with the soil surface.
- Fill the hole with soil, pressing it down firmly around the roots.
- Watering: Water thoroughly after planting. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged until the plant is established.
- Mulching: Apply a layer of mulch around the base of the plant to help retain soil moisture and suppress weeds.
- Maintenance: Water regularly during dry periods, and fertilize with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in the spring. Divide the plant every 3-4 years to maintain its vigor.
