Forever® Purple Heuchera is an award-winning Coral Bells variety prized for its intensely glossy, deep purple foliage that retains its rich color throughout the growing season. Unlike many purple Heucheras that fade in summer heat, Forever® Purple maintains vibrant color from spring through fall, creating a bold contrast in shade gardens, borders, containers, and woodland landscapes. In early to midsummer, delicate sprays of rosy-purple flowers rise above the colorful foliage, attracting hummingbirds, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinators. Compact, evergreen in many climates, and exceptionally easy to grow, this long-lasting perennial provides outstanding year-round texture and color.

Planting Instructions (From a 3.5" Pot into the Ground)

    1. Choose the Location

    • Select a site with partial shade and well-drained, organically rich soil.
    • Ideal for woodland gardens, borders, edging, containers, and under trees.

    2. Prepare the Soil

    • Loosen soil 8–10 inches deep.
    • Incorporate compost or leaf mold to improve fertility and drainage.

    3. Dig the Hole

    • Dig a hole twice as wide as the 3.5" pot and equal depth.

    4. Remove from Pot

    • Carefully remove the plant from its container.
    • Gently loosen any circling roots before planting.

    5. Plant

    • Position the crown slightly above or level with the surrounding soil surface.
    • Avoid burying the crown, as excessive soil around it can lead to rot.
    • Backfill with soil and gently firm around the roots.

    6. Water Thoroughly

    • Water deeply immediately after planting.
    • Keep soil consistently moist during the first growing season.

    7. Mulch

    • Apply a light 2-inch layer of mulch around the plant, keeping mulch away from the crown.

    8. Spacing

    • Space plants 16–20 inches apart to allow for mature growth and good air circulation.

    Overwintering Forever® Purple Heuchera

    In-Ground Plants

    • Fully hardy throughout USDA Zones 4–9.
    • Foliage often remains evergreen or semi-evergreen in mild winter climates.
    • Leave foliage in place over winter to help protect the crown from temperature fluctuations.

    Winter Care Tips

    • Apply a light layer of mulch after the ground freezes to reduce frost heaving.
    • Avoid heavy mulch directly over the crown.
    • Water occasionally during prolonged winter dry spells if the ground is not frozen.

    Spring Maintenance

    • Remove winter-damaged leaves in late winter or early spring.
    • Trim spent flower stalks and any dead foliage as new growth begins.
    • Divide mature clumps every 3–5 years if the crown becomes woody or begins to decline.

    Container-Grown Plants

    • Move containers to a sheltered location during severe winter weather.
    • Protect pots from repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
    • Water sparingly during dormancy, allowing the soil to remain slightly moist but never soggy.
