Planting Instructions (From a 3.5" Pot into the Ground)

    1. Choose the Location

    • Select a location with consistently moist soil.
    • Ideal for pond margins, rain gardens, water features, bog gardens, and low-lying landscape areas.

    2. Prepare the Soil

    • Loosen soil 8–10 inches deep.
    • Incorporate compost if needed to improve moisture retention.

    3. Dig the Hole

    • Dig a hole twice as wide as the 3.5" pot and equal depth.

    4. Remove from Pot

    • Carefully remove the plant and gently loosen any compacted roots.

    5. Plant

    • Position the root ball level with the surrounding soil surface.
    • Backfill with soil and firm gently around the roots.

    6. Water Thoroughly

    • Water deeply after planting.
    • Keep soil consistently moist at all times.

    7. Spacing

    • Space plants 18–24 inches apart.
    • Consider root barriers if planting in areas where spreading needs to be controlled.

    Seasonal Care & Maintenance

    • Water regularly to maintain moist soil conditions.
    • Remove damaged or discolored stems as needed.
    • Divide clumps every few years if growth becomes too dense.
    • Use barriers or containers if limiting spread is desired, as Horsetail can naturalize aggressively in favorable conditions.

Horsetail Grass is a distinctive and virtually maintenance-free perennial that brings strong vertical texture and year-round structure to the landscape. Its prehistoric appearance, moisture-loving nature, and exceptional durability make it an outstanding choice for water gardens, modern landscapes, and naturalized settings.
