Planting Instructions (From a 3.5" Pot into the Ground)
1. Choose the Location
- Select a sunny to lightly shaded area with well-drained soil.
- Ideal for hedges, privacy screens, foundation plantings, and formal borders.
2. Prepare the Soil
- Loosen soil 10–12 inches deep.
- Add compost if needed to improve drainage and root establishment.
3. Dig the Hole
- Dig a hole twice as wide as the 3.5" pot and equal depth.
4. Remove from Pot
- Carefully remove the plant and gently loosen any circling roots.
5. Plant
- Position the root ball level with or slightly above surrounding soil level.
- Backfill and firm soil gently.
6. Water
- Water thoroughly after planting.
- Keep soil evenly moist during establishment.
7. Mulch
- Apply mulch around the base to conserve moisture and regulate soil temperature.
- Keep mulch a few inches away from the trunk.
8. Spacing
- Space plants 2–4 feet apart for hedges or farther apart for specimen plantings.
Seasonal Care & Maintenance
- Water deeply during prolonged dry periods, especially in the first few years
- Lightly prune if desired to maintain formal shape
- Protect young plants from heavy snow or winter wind in exposed areas
- Fertilize lightly in spring with an evergreen fertilizer if needed
