Planting Instructions (From a 3.5" Pot into the Ground)

    1. Choose the Location

    • Select a warm, sheltered location with rich, fertile soil.
    • Protect from strong winds that can tear the large leaves.

    2. Prepare the Soil

    • Loosen soil 10–12 inches deep.
    • Incorporate compost or aged organic matter to improve fertility and moisture retention.

    3. Dig the Hole

    • Dig a hole twice as wide as the 3.5" pot and equal depth.

    4. Remove from Pot

    • Carefully remove the plant and gently loosen any circling roots.

    5. Plant

    • Place the root ball at the same depth it was growing in the nursery pot.
    • Backfill with soil and firm gently.

    6. Water Thoroughly

    • Water deeply after planting.
    • Keep soil consistently moist throughout the growing season.

    7. Mulch

    • Apply 2–3 inches of mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds.

    8. Spacing

    • Space plants 6–10 feet apart to accommodate mature growth.

    Seasonal Care & Maintenance

    • Feed regularly during the growing season with a balanced fertilizer.
    • Water deeply during hot weather to encourage vigorous growth.
    • Remove damaged or tattered leaves as needed.
    • Provide wind protection whenever possible.

    Overwintering (Zones Below 9)

    Option 1: Store Dormant

    1. Before the first hard frost, dig the plant carefully.
    2. Cut leaves back, leaving several inches of stem.
    3. Allow the root ball to dry slightly.
    4. Store upright in a cool, frost-free location between 40–55°F.
    5. Replant outdoors after frost danger has passed.

    Option 2: Grow Indoors

    1. Pot the plant and move indoors before frost.
    2. Place in a bright location with indirect sunlight.
    3. Reduce watering during winter.
    4. Resume normal watering and fertilization in spring.
