Planting Instructions (From a 3.5" Pot into the Ground)
1. Choose the Location
- Select a warm, sheltered location with rich, fertile soil.
- Protect from strong winds that can tear the large leaves.
2. Prepare the Soil
- Loosen soil 10–12 inches deep.
- Incorporate compost or aged organic matter to improve fertility and moisture retention.
3. Dig the Hole
- Dig a hole twice as wide as the 3.5" pot and equal depth.
4. Remove from Pot
- Carefully remove the plant and gently loosen any circling roots.
5. Plant
- Place the root ball at the same depth it was growing in the nursery pot.
- Backfill with soil and firm gently.
6. Water Thoroughly
- Water deeply after planting.
- Keep soil consistently moist throughout the growing season.
7. Mulch
- Apply 2–3 inches of mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
8. Spacing
- Space plants 6–10 feet apart to accommodate mature growth.
Seasonal Care & Maintenance
- Feed regularly during the growing season with a balanced fertilizer.
- Water deeply during hot weather to encourage vigorous growth.
- Remove damaged or tattered leaves as needed.
- Provide wind protection whenever possible.
Overwintering (Zones Below 9)
Option 1: Store Dormant

- Cut leaves back, leaving several inches of stem.

- Store upright in a cool, frost-free location between 40–55°F.
- Replant outdoors after frost danger has passed.
Option 2: Grow Indoors
