    6. Water Thoroughly

    • Water deeply after planting.

    Overwintering Alpinia zerumbet

    In-Ground Plants (Zones 8–11)

    • Plants remain evergreen in frost-free climates.

    Winter Care Tips

    • Reduce watering during cool weather while preventing soil from becoming completely dry.
    • Remove frost-damaged foliage in spring after new growth appears.
    • Protect young plants from hard freezes with frost cloth if necessary.

    Container-Grown Plants

    • Move containers indoors or to a greenhouse before temperatures drop below 40°F.
    • Place in bright indirect light and reduce watering during winter.
    • Resume regular watering and feeding in spring.

Cold Climate Protection (Zones Below 8)

    • Grow as a container plant and overwinter indoors.
    • Alternatively, dig and store rhizomes in a frost-free location similar to canna lilies.
