Arp Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis ‘Arp’) is one of the hardiest rosemary cultivars, prized for its resilience, culinary value, and ornamental charm. Named after the town of Arp, Texas, this variety was discovered in the 1970s and is especially noted for its cold tolerance compared to other rosemaries. It forms an upright, bushy shrub with aromatic gray-green foliage that can be harvested year-round. In spring to early summer, it produces delicate pale blue flowers that attract pollinators. Highly versatile, Arp Rosemary works well in herb gardens, borders, containers, or as a fragrant hedge.

    • Wildlife & Pest Resistance: Attracts bees and pollinators; resistant to deer and rabbits.

    • Planting Zone: Hardy in USDA zones 6–10 (among the most cold-tolerant rosemary varieties).

    • Sun Preferences: Full sun (6+ hours daily) for best growth and oil concentration.

    • Drought Tolerance: Excellent once established; prefers dry to moderately moist conditions.

    • Height/Spread: Grows 3–4 feet tall and wide; can be trimmed to shape.

Planting Instructions (from a 3.5" pot into the ground):

    1. Timing: Plant in spring after frost danger has passed, or in fall in warmer climates.

    2. Location: Select a sunny site with well-draining, sandy or loamy soil. Rosemary dislikes soggy roots.

    3. Preparation: Dig a hole twice the width of the pot and equal in depth.

    4. Planting: Remove the plant from the pot, gently loosen roots, and place in the hole with the crown level to the soil surface.

    5. Backfill: Replace soil, firm gently, and water thoroughly.

    6. Spacing: Space 24–36 inches apart for hedge or mass planting.

    7. Aftercare: Water regularly until established. Once mature, water deeply but infrequently. Prune lightly to shape and encourage dense growth. Protect in colder climates with mulch or by planting in a sheltered spot.
