Transplanting Instructions
Important: Nepenthes should not be transplanted into regular garden soil. Use only specialized carnivorous plant media.
1. Choose the Right Container
- Use a pot or hanging basket with excellent drainage.
- Plastic pots help retain humidity better than clay pots.
2. Prepare the Growing Medium
Use a loose, airy carnivorous plant mix such as:
- Long-fiber sphagnum moss
- Perlite
- Orchid bark
Avoid:
- Standard potting soil
- Fertilizers
- Compost-rich mixes
3. Remove the Plant Carefully
- Gently slide the plant from its nursery pot.
- Avoid damaging delicate roots and pitchers.
4. Position the Plant
- Set the root ball level with the top of the new growing medium.
- Fill around roots lightly without compacting the mix.
5. Water Thoroughly
-
Use only:
- Rainwater
- Distilled water
- Reverse osmosis water
Avoid mineral-heavy tap water whenever possible.
6. Provide Proper Conditions
- Maintain humidity between 50–80%
- Keep temperatures around 65–85°F
- Place in bright indirect light
Seasonal Care & Maintenance
- Keep the growing medium lightly moist but never waterlogged
- Increase humidity if pitchers stop forming
- Trim brown or dried pitchers as needed
- Avoid fertilizing heavily—plants naturally obtain nutrients from insects
