Creeping Rosemary is a fragrant, low-growing evergreen herb that forms a beautiful cascading mat of needle-like foliage. Unlike upright rosemary, this variety spreads horizontally, making it ideal for spilling over walls, edging garden beds, or filling in sunny slopes. In spring and often again in fall, it produces delicate pale blue to lavender flowers that attract pollinators. Its aromatic foliage releases a classic rosemary scent when brushed, adding both sensory appeal and culinary value to the landscape.

Planting Instructions (From a 4" Pot into the Ground)

    1. Choose the Location

    • Select a sunny location with excellent drainage.
    • Ideal for slopes, raised beds, rock gardens, or containers.

    2. Prepare the Soil

    • Loosen soil 8–10 inches deep.
    • Mix in sand or gravel if soil is heavy—rosemary requires excellent drainage.

    3. Dig the Hole

    • Dig a hole twice as wide as the 4" pot and equal depth.

    4. Remove from Pot

    • Gently remove the plant and loosen any tightly bound roots.

    5. Plant

    • Place the plant so the top of the root ball is level with the soil surface.
    • Backfill and firm gently.

    6. Water

    • Water thoroughly after planting.
    • Water regularly until established, then reduce frequency.

    7. Spacing

    • Space plants 18–24 inches apart to allow spreading.

    Overwintering Creeping Rosemary

    In-Ground (Zones 7–10)

    • Evergreen in mild climates.
    • Reduce watering during winter months.
    • In cooler Zone 7 areas, apply a light mulch layer around the base (avoid covering the crown).
    • Protect from cold winds if possible.

Colder Climates (Zones 6 and Below)

    • May not survive outdoors—consider:
      • Growing in containers and bringing indoors
      • Planting in a sheltered, south-facing location

    Container Plants

    • Bring indoors before hard frost.
    • Place in a bright, sunny window.
    • Water sparingly during winter.

Creeping Rosemary is a versatile, low-maintenance herb that combines ornamental beauty with culinary usefulness. Its trailing habit, fragrant foliage, and drought tolerance make it a perfect choice for sunny landscapes and herb gardens alike.
